Le Centre du Rat est un centre d’art indépendant situé dans un sous sol d’appartement au pied du Mont Royal à Montréal qui existe officiellement depuis 2019. C’est une initiative de l’artiste Alix Van Der Donckt-Ferrand.
Entre 2016 et 2018, il y a eu une infestation de rats dans l’édifice où se situe le centre. Au moins 20 rats ont du être tués par les locataires de l’appartement durant cette période. Au final, le tuyau d’égouts d’où sortaient ces familles de rongeurs a été remplacé et le plancher de béton re-coulé par les hommes à tout faire du propriétaire de l’édifice. Le Centre du Rat a été nommé en hommage aux rats qui sont décédés dans l’espace.
The Centre du Rat is an independent art centre located in apartment basement at the foot of the Mount Royal in Montreal that officially opened its doors in 2019. This project is led by artist Alix Van Der Donckt-Ferrand.
Between 2016 and 2018, there was a rat infestation in the Centre du Rat and building that stands above it. At least 20 rats had to be killed by the renters of the apartment. Finally, the sewer pipe that let all the rat families in the space was changed and the cracked open cement floor was broken down and poured again by the landlord’s handy men. The Centre du Rat was named in homage to the rats that died in and above the space.
